One of the sweetest things about calisthenics training is its diversity. You can train anywhere, anytime and with, quite literally, anything. The world becomes your playground and the idea that your workouts have to be constrained to a gym quickly becomes limiting in itself. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on gym memberships if you don't want to. You can strip it right back to the basics and make use of trees, public playgrounds (try not to scare off the kids) or skate parks. It's the ultimate outdoor street workout!
Get motivated from this video for your next calisthenics workout. Your creativity is your only limit!
From watching videos like this, you'll notice a few trends though. If you want to get a little more professional and level up your training at home, there are a few staple pieces of equipment that pop up time and time again. These include a bar and a good set of gymnastic rings. As shown by the strong lady at 0:54, you can travel with a set of gymnastic rings and simply hang them from a strong support beam of tree branch.
You can have so much fun and flexibility with your workouts. If you suffer from WADD (workout attention deficit disorder – sorry guys, we made that one up), no one day needs to be the same. This keeps it interesting and it's what fuels the motivation to come back time and time again. To try out new tricks, test your skills and experiment.
Just don't be put off by these professionals who have obviously been doing this for years. Set your own goals. Even it means one pull up, that's one more pull up than you could manage last year. We have a good calisthenics beginner's program to get you started.
Calisthenics is about a freedom of movement regardless of who you are, where you are and what resources you have access to – making it a workout accessible to everyone.
